What makes a successful affiliate? (5 tips)

by Paul Bryant

Successful Affiliate MarketingEvery now and again, an affiliate posts on the MoreNiche forum saying that they have been promoting a product for X amount of time but are still yet to see a sale. At the same time you see people posting about making a sale within a few days or even hours.

So this begs the question what makes a successful affiliate?

The answer to this is never straightforward, there are so many factors that all contribute to any affiliates success (or failure). Let’s have a look at what I believe are the main factors that decide any affiliates level of success.

“Do a little more each day than you think you possibly can”

It doesn’t matter whether you are working full-time as an affiliate or only have a couple of hours a week after your main job – the amount of work you put in is key. Remember too that work can include learning too, if you are willing to add a mixture of learning new things into your daily routine you can go far.

Generally it’s simple - the harder you work the faster and better your results will be.

If there was a way to be successful without working hard we would all be doing it! Put the work in and stay dedicated and you will achieve results. However its not just how much work you put in as my next point explains….

2) “The combination of hard work and smart work is efficient work”

Working hard on it’s own does not mean you will be successful. You need to combine it with smart work otherwise you end up spending all your time doing things that have little or no effect on your success. What this means is make sure that whatever you work on, it will have a positive benefit at least in the long term.

This doesn’t mean that everything you do has to have a positive effect in the short term. Sometimes doing something that has no effect or even a negative effect can be time well spent – providing you learn from it and adapt how you work in the future.

3) “If you chase two rabbits, both will escape”

One of the biggest reasons affiliates fail is a lack of ability to focus. In fact it’s not just affiliates, businesses often make this mistake too – trying to do several things at once inevitably means you will not do any of them to the best of your ability.

Instead of trying to build many sites in different niches, start by building one and keep working on it until it gets the results you want. Then you can move on to your next project. This brings better results, quicker.

4) “Convincing yourself doesn’t win an argument”

Sometimes it’s easy to disagree with your visitors. For example on product sites such as Aloeride aloe vera pills, the colour red is used on the page headlines.

Now, you might look at it and think it looks ugly….well I would be inclined to agree and yet I worked on Aloeride and chose to use the red text – yet I don’t even like it!

So why did I do it? Quite simply because it stands out and it works. I could have convinced myself that because I didn’t like it then it was wrong to do it, but that would have been suicide. Never sacrifice something that works just because it you don’t like it. Your visitors thoughts and actions are far more important than your own personal preferences.

5) “Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion”

If you don’t love what you do then it will become increasingly harder to motivate yourself and come up with new ideas. If you can develop a passion not only for affiliate marketing but also for the products you promote then you are one step ahead of those who cannot.

This means you should have an interest in the products you promote, if you don’t have the remotest interest in paint stripper then don’t build a site promoting it! Pick something that interests you, for example if you like designing websites then choose to promote a web design company such as EasyWebsites4U.

This will make it much easier to wake up every morning and be eager to start work – you are also likely to learn new things about the subject too which will increase your interest further.

So there we have it, five big factors that decide whether you will be a successful affiliate marketer or not. Remember these quotes and ensure each one means something to you and helps you work better and affiliate marketing will bring you everything you dreamed it would.
